Vibe Coding: When English Becomes Programming Language

Vibe Coding: When English Becomes Programming Language
When following AI development, you couldn't avoid the term "vibe coding". What is it really about and why is this phenomenon significant even for those who have never written a single line of code?
Vibe coding refers to the approach introduced by Andrej Karpathy (ex. OpenAI and Tesla) in February 2025, where code is not created by hand-writing, but by telling the AI the goal in natural language, after which the AI handles all the necessary programming work. "The hottest new programming language is English", as Karpathy has stated.
The effects of this phenomenon extend to many levels:
1. Technology creation becomes democratized: The threshold for programming decreases, more and more people can "vibe-code" the tool they want themselves. The change is comparable to how digital publishing opened content creation to everyone.
2. The focus of value creation shifts: The bottleneck in technology development shifts from code production to idea definition and testing. 25% of Y Combinator's latest batch startups use a codebase that is 95% AI-generated.
3. Organizational operating models change: When the threshold for technical implementation is lowered, the ability to define what you want to build and why becomes emphasized. This opens new opportunities for business management and those working at the customer interface to directly influence technology solutions.
The phenomenon has its own risks, especially in production code, where the understandability and security of the underlying code are critical. Organizations must find a balance between rapid development and quality control.
What's interesting about this development is also that the more we automate software development, the more important become precisely those skills where humans still surpass AI – strategic thinking and the ability to understand complex business needs.
